Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

CineMatch: Movie Picker (“CineMatch”, “we”, “us”) is an app that helps couples and pairs choose movies together. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how that information is used, and the choices available to you.

By using CineMatch, you understand that we process information as described here in order to provide the service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide and information created when you use the app.

Account and identity

• Email address, used to create and sign in to your account.
• User ID / account identifier associated with your account.
• Display name, if you set one.

You can sign in with email one-time passcodes (OTP), Sign in with Apple, or Google. When you use Apple or Google, those providers share the account information needed to complete sign-in (such as an identifier and, depending on your settings, an email address).

App activity

• Selected genres.
• Movie swipes.
• Movie ratings and notes.
• Space/room information and your participation in a room.
• Movies you add manually, including any photo or poster you upload for that movie.

On-device session data

Some room session information may be stored temporarily on your device so you can restore an in-progress session.

We do not collect payment card details in the app, and we do not use a separate analytics or advertising SDK in the current app.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

• Create and authenticate your account.
• Operate matching, rooms, watchlists, notes, ratings, and related features.
• Store and display movies you add, including uploaded posters.
• Send sign-in emails such as one-time passcodes.
• Maintain the service, fix issues, and protect accounts against abuse.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising.

4. How We Share Information

Other people in a shared space/room can see information needed for that room to work, such as participation, swipes that affect matching, and movies added to shared lists.

We share information with service providers only as needed to run CineMatch (for example authentication, database, storage, and email delivery). Those providers process information on our behalf according to their own terms and this use.

We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect the security of the service or our users.

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

5. Third-Party Services

CineMatch relies on the following services:

• Supabase — authentication, database, realtime features, file storage (including uploaded posters), and an Edge Function that fetches movie information.
• Sign in with Apple and Google — optional sign-in methods.
• Resend — used as the email (SMTP) provider through Supabase to send authentication emails such as OTP codes.
• The Movie Database (TMDB) — source of movie information such as titles, descriptions, genres, posters, and related metadata. CineMatch requests this catalog data through our own backend (a Supabase Edge Function). This Privacy Policy does not claim that TMDB receives your personal account information.

Those services have their own privacy policies. Using Apple, Google, or TMDB catalog content is also subject to those providers’ terms.

6. Data Storage and Security

Account, room, swipe, and related app data are stored using Supabase. Uploaded photos and posters may be stored in Supabase Storage. Temporary session information may also be kept on your device.

Network communication with our backend uses HTTPS/TLS. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed to provide CineMatch and maintain your account, and as otherwise required to operate the service. When information is no longer needed for these purposes, we delete or de-identify it where reasonably practicable, unless a longer period is required by applicable law.

On-device session data is kept to restore an in-progress session and can be removed when that session ends or when you clear app data on the device.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Where applicable under applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. You may also be able to object to or restrict certain processing, or request a copy of information you provided.

To make a request, email privacy@getcinematch.app. We may need to verify your identity before completing the request.

You can stop using the app at any time. Sign-in providers (Apple or Google) also let you manage or revoke app access in their account settings.

9. Children’s Privacy

CineMatch is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without an appropriate legal basis. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact privacy@getcinematch.app and we will take appropriate steps.

10. International Data Transfers

CineMatch is provided using cloud infrastructure. Information may be stored or processed on servers operated by our service providers, which may be located in a country other than your own. Where this happens, we rely on those providers’ safeguards for transferring information.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. The revised policy applies from that date unless a later date is stated.
